Business Need:
Shell Energy, a retail energy company, needed an application that would provide increase productivity of their Back Office Analyst, allow a business user to extract data for reporting, and fix business transaction. Some of the functionality needed was:

Ability to validate 15,000+ customer bill in one batch every day;

Ability to resubmit utility error transaction into Lodestar billing engine;

Ability to reconcile payments from CheckFree, ADS, and Chase;

Ability to reconcile number of customers to be billed versus number of customers billed in a month;

Ability to assign security based on department.
Solution:
We took the business requirement and developed a project plan. Because Shell has a global infrastructure desktop standard, deploying a desktop application will be costly. We created a web application called Back Office Support System Web (BOSSWeb), which requires zero installation on client machine and provides:
- Dynamic menus for future reporting or application;
- Administration area for security;
- ASP framework that allow other programmer to use its framework to develop new application within BOSSWeb;
- Export report to Microsoft Excel;
- Audit trail;
- XML integration with 3rd party application.
